CPMC Office of Clinical Trials News
Affiliate Programs Continue to Grow
The CPMC Office of Clinical Trials continues to work with affiliated hospitals to develop clinical trials programs there. In addition to taking the GCP courses "on the road," Mr. Leahey says his office is expanding its principal investigator data base to include researchers at affiliated institutions. Another step is negotiating subcontracts with affiliates and reviewing their IRB procedures to quickly respond to requests from sponsors and investigators for additional enrolling sites. In addition, the merger of Presbyterian Hospital and New York Hospital has provided many hospitals and centers as potential enrolling sites. "This offers a wonderful opportunity for future studies," he says.
The first study under way at an affiliate is being conducted by Dr. Richard Mayeux, the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Professor of Neurology and of Psychiatry and professor in public health. Dr. Mayeux's study is to test his hypothesis that estrogen replacement therapy in women with a family history of Alzheimer's disease can delay the onset of symptoms. That pilot study will be conducted at CPMC affiliates Valley Hospital and Riverdale Community Physicians.
